We’re very impressed with the innovative way that 15 year old Jake Pember is raising money for a good cause…
Teenagers get a lot of bad press these days but here’s one young entrepreneur who isn’t afraid of hard work. Driven by his goal of raising £4000 for his World Challenge Expedition to Ecuador next year, 15 year old Jake Pember has set up his successful “Scrabbulous” business, making personalised Scrabble art pictures and accessories. A regular at Bath Artisan market over the last few months, Jake has seen his business go from strength to strength.
Jake attributes the popularity of his pictures to their broad appeal and says: “There’s a picture for every occasion and all ages, especially people who are hard to buy for and people seem to really like the personalised angle”. The pictures are also great value ranging from only £14.99 – £19.99 for a bespoke creation. One customer was so happy with her personalised picture she has ordered 12 more for Christmas presents.
In addition to running his Scrabbulous business Jake has two gardening jobs, does babysitting and pet sitting, casual work for a reading charity and “sticking up” for a local skittles team – all whilst studying for his 10 GCSE’s! Jake has raised £2, 300 and is well on his way to meeting his £4 000 target by July when he leaves for Ecuador for the month long expedition where he’ll be helping to build a new schoolroom in a deprived Ecuadorian community.
Jake’s a welcome addition to our market and he says “it’s been a great opportunity for me. It’s helped me reach more customers but more than anything has been a shop window for my business. I have my Facebook page but many people who have come to the stall have said that the Facebook photographs don’t do the pictures justice and they look even better in reality.”
So come and have a look at his pictures on November 9th and get your orders in in time for Christmas. You can also help by liking his Facebook page too www.tinyurl.com/scrabbulous or by making a direct donation to Jake’s World Challenge Fund.
